Richard Thomas Hassett was born February 10, 1951 in Sloan, Iowa, the son of Robert “Bob” and Ann (Brell) Hassett. He graduated from St. Edmonds High School in Ft. Dodge. Dick was united in marriage to Peggy (Lindeen) Aamodt on October 6, 2017 in Mediapolis.

Dick worked first as a foreman and later as a manager for Decker Truck Line, formerly known as Umthun Trucking. He was a member of the Global Methodist Church where he was active in the church choir and worship team. He was highly involved in the Mediapolis Community Theater and Choir and was a member of the Town & Country Days Committee. The highlight of his time on the committee was the year he proposed to Peggy on the main stage during a variety show.

Dick was involved in the Mediapolis Little League organization in the 80’s. He enjoyed fishing, particularly his fishing trips to Canada with his brother, Jim. Dick loved to travel and sing karaoke. He always had a good story or joke to tell and never knew a stranger. Dick’s greatest joy came from being a father and grandfather and attending all of the kid’s events. He was looking forward to becoming a great-grandfather.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Peggy Hassett of Mediapolis; children: Shelly Hassett-Player (Riccoh) of Abilene, TX; Ryan (Heather) Hassett of Bonner Springs, KS; and Nicole Hassett of Cedar Rapids; step-children: Ryan, Nathan and Tyler Aamodt and Josh Gerst, Minda Swisher and Collin Gerst; eight grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; siblings: Pat Hassett, Bob (Lynda) Hassett and Rusty Hassett; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: Micki Laddusaw, James “Jim” Hassett, and Joseph “Joe” Hassett.
